Starting your own salon is a big step. Exciting, fun, but also a bit overwhelming. Where do you actually start? Below you'll find 7 points you really can't forget if you want to get off to a good start.

1. Register with the Chamber of Commerce

When you start your own salon, you need to register with the Chamber of Commerce. You'll then get a VAT number and can officially start as an entrepreneur. Don't forget to also think about appropriate liability insurance. If something goes wrong, you want to be well insured.

2. Arrange your administration from day one

It might sound boring, but simple administration gives you peace of mind. Open a separate business bank account and track what comes in and goes out. With tools like Bookura this becomes easy: you immediately see what you've earned, which appointments are scheduled, and you have everything neatly in one place.

3. Make a clear price list

Determine your services and corresponding prices. Consider your purchases, your time, and what others in your area charge. Put everything clearly on your booking page or flyer, so clients know what to expect.

4. Ensure a nice workplace

You don't have to rent an expensive salon right away. Start at home, or rent a chair. Make sure it looks clean and well-maintained. A nice atmosphere ensures clients feel comfortable—and come back.

5. Show yourself

Starting without a website? No problem. Begin with an Instagram or Facebook page. Post photos of your work and tell what you offer. Put a link to your booking page in your bio, so clients can book immediately.

6. Make booking easy

A good booking system is essential. No DM'ing or back-and-forth messaging. Clients simply choose a time themselves, and you have overview. Via Bookura you arrange that within a few minutes.

7. Focus on client experience

Clients remember especially how they felt with you. Were you friendly? Did they feel you really listened? That experience is at least as important as the result. Give them a warm welcome—and a reason to come back.

In short: Starting well isn't about expensive stuff, but about smart choices. Start organized, be visible, and put your client first. Then that first regular client will come naturally.
